Spend at least 10 hours observing in an early child care program and write a report on the observation (including cover page, citations and references) and include evidence-based information from the assigned readings in the textbook including citations and references. Students must make their own arrangements, with instructor approval, for this experience.
The following are some things to be sure and observe. You may add others. Be sure to include the ages of the children you observe and describe the setting.
How many people wash their hands at the proper time?
How many follow the correct procedure for hand washing?
In changing diapers, how many use the required techniques and equipment?
What common problems in techniques for prevention of the spread of infection did you see? What would make the task easier?
How was toileting handled for the young children?
Did you see any safety problems either indoors or on the playground?
What were the meals and snacks provided during the observation time?
What did you learn during the observation time?
What were the positive and negative things you observed in regard to the health, nutrition, and safety of the children?
