The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate how the principles and theories addressed in the course thus far, transfer into leadership in the’real world’.. Using an interview with a healthcare system leader, students will do a case study on the leadership style of an individual. They will then relate and compare their findings to an applicable model of leadership given in academic literature. In addition, they prepare a paper summarizing the information they obtained from the interviews.

Preparation:

You’ll need to set up an interview with a health care professional in a leadership position. For example, you can set up an appointment with someone you’ve never met before who works for a different organization than the one in which you’re employed (e.g. an imaging manager or chief medical technologist). You can also arrange an interview with a mental health services team leader or director of operations (this can help build your network of contacts and enables you to meet people working in areas of health that you might not be familiar with).
If at all possible, the interview should take place in person, over the phone, or in a virtual conference room.
You are in charge of making all the arrangements for the interview, including the time, location, and questions to be asked.
In order to finish the interview task, you need allow at least 30-40 minutes of interview time.
You must get informed agreement (verbal or written) from your interviewee to conduct this interview on these terms by informing them of the aim of your interview and the fact that you will be producing an assignment report about the interview and your findings. If your interviewee requests that you remove their name from your written report, you can do so.

Conclusion:

Provide a succinct overview of the most important findings from your interview with regard to healthcare leadership.
References; Use and quote at least ten (10) current, credible, and acceptable scholarly and peer-reviewed publications to back up your claims, and offer a reference list in the proper referencing format.

The interviewee might be someone you know in an organisation you are associated with (e.g. ward manager; imaging manager; chief medical technologist; director of nursing; mental health services team leader; director operations; community health team leader) or you might arrange an interview with someone you have not met before (this can help build your network of contacts and enables you to meet people working in areas of health that you might not be familiar with).
The interview should be conducted face -to-face (where possible) or via phone, or a virtual meeting room.
It is your responsibility to make all the arrangements for this interview, such as time, place and interview questions.
Allow at a minimum about 30-40 minutes duration to gain enough information to be able to complete the interview assignment.
You are required to inform the person the purpose of your interview and that you will be writing an assignment report on the interview and your findings by obtaining informed consent (verbally, or written) to conduct this interview from your interviewee on those terms. In your written report you may de-identify your interviewee if requested by them.
