Follow the prompt below Prompt: Find a topic in accounting that you find interesting and would like to learn more about. This can be an academic topic (e.g., earnings management, conservatism, earnings) or a practical topic (e.g., how to account for revenue from online advertising, how to estimate the fair value of certain financial instruments). Your topic (and the members of your group, accordingly) must be approved by me. I recommend you talk with me first in order to determine if I think the topic is acceptable to avoid delays. Use appropriate citations where relevant and according to your professional judgment. When using the codification, note the following: 1) Cite the ASC down to the Paragraph. For example, (ASC 330-10-05-01) 2) The main goal is to interpret your findings into ‘plain English’ as best you can. In other words, how would you explain the appropriate accounting treatment to a colleague, boss, or business partner who has a basic understanding of accounting? You may (and are encouraged to) use debits and credits and/or t-accounts to illustrate the accounting if appropriate. For all other citations, please consistently follow a single style (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago). Always cite if you are making a factual claim. This is not intended to be a simple or straightforward project. I will expect to see creative thinking, thoughtful analysis, and a display of your general competency of using the tools we have talked about in class. Accordingly, I will follow the following qualitative rubric for your reports. I reserve the right to use ‘+’ and ‘-‘ in addition to the following letter grades, corresponding to an addition (reduction) of 2 points. For example, an ‘A+’ on the report itself would correspond to 73 points, an F- would correspond to 39 points. A grade of ‘A++’ is reserved for particularly special and exceptional reports which I believe go well above and beyond my expectations for the class.
