Module Description
Qualitative strategies for the DNP are used primarily when the project is mainly focused on processes rather than outcomes. The DNP is interested in understanding and meaning associated with various phenomena. Qualitative research and projects are founded in the traditions of science and uses an inductive reasoning approach. Qualitative methods provide rich evaluation data for decision making. As with other scientific traditions, there are common characteristics to all qualitative studies and projects that are reflected in the essential elements of the research process. This module provides information regarding those foundational essential elements.
Objectives
Upon the completion of this module, you will be able to:
Explain the philosophical underpinnings of qualitative research.
Describe the advantages and limitations of using qualitative research design.
Explain the common essential elements of qualitative research design in choosing an approach:
phenomenology
ethnography
grounded theory

Design and implement processes to evaluate outcomes of practice, practice patterns, and systems of care within a practice setting, health care organization, or community against national benchmarks to determine variances in practice outcomes and population trends.
Design, direct, and evaluate quality improvement methodologies to promote safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care.
