Cap liked your work at their house and has now invited you to come and visit a vacant building in Noho that is going to be used for a startup. The company has found that they can purchase slurry and runoff from Soprano Farms in New Jersey that can be repurposed into making Hot Weiners, Cat Food, and Cap’s Own ReelMeet Brand, Meet Patties [The FDA won’t let them use the word Meat in the name]. While it’s just a startup idea currently, Cap thinks this could take off, and ReelMeet could be the next big thing.
Cap wants you to plan a logical network for the startup. The first iteration of the startup is that there will be a pretty basic operation that will ramp up. Initially, there is just Cap, an accountant, a lawyer, a salesperson, and an engineer. Cap then says in their best kindlymanner (which seems more like they might remove your skin and eat it but maybe not if you slowly exit): “And, of course, an office for my new directory of IT.” You look around but realize that Cap is talking to you. You feel a swelling of pride, or maybe it’s just that Schwarma you ate from the food cart (and not the good schwarma cart on 51st, that cheap shady one by the Bleeker St. station; that one where all the cats disappear, yeah, I mean, the one of 51st is great, but you missed the stop and it costs so much more, and there is always a line…) anyway, you start to say, “Well, I mean, no thanks, but you realize that Cap has already left and there is a contract for sizeable sum on the table, and you do have those student loans from that Country Jazz Fusion Guitar class you took, so, you figure, how bad could it be?
Prepare a basic network design for the network you will build. You should probably go ahead and spec out the networks, VLANs, and whatnot. I mean, you want to do it right from the ground up, so you need management VLANs and such (I assure you). I went ahead and attached the chart of ips on the public side from Mr. Internet, but that is really part of a later assignment. IP plans, network segments, all that good stuff.
Build your plan, put it in a PDF, and submit it for Cap to review. Oh, and Cap, Cap is a real stickler for spelling and grammar. Old school. So, bear that in mind.
