Aim of literature-based scientific writing
- Clearly formulate your research topic/question(s).
- Identify/explain the current state of research/literature.
- Deal with thoughts of other authors, sort, structure, compare and critically discuss them.
- Contribute your own thoughts.
- Find a solution/conclusion and provide recommendations.
Introduction
- Motivation of the topic, why is it interesting/relevant?
- What is known in the literature (and common knowledge)?
- What is missing?
- What is/are my research question(s)/topic(s)?
- Perhaps, what are the key answers/results?
- How is the paper structured?
Main part
- Subsections not too many subsections and not only one subsection, usually 1 to 3 levels Conceptual/theoretical background (general perspective)
- For a literature review: different approaches/views/topics in the literature, possibly structured in subsections
- Critical discussion.
