Question:
The war in Ukraine has shaken the global economy, dramatically upending global food and energy supplies and markets and resulting in unprecedented economic sanctions on Russia from the US and the European Union. Many of the sanctions are aimed at excluding Russia from being able to participate in the global economy. Following after years of pandemic, it feels like the era we called “globalization” with its predictions of a borderless world (for things and money, if not for people) might be coming to an end. Is the current war the end of globalization? To answer: Pick one concrete example of how the global economy is being (or will likely be) affected by the current war, and analyze it by discussing how it relates to the question of borders within the (supposedly) “borderless” world of the globalized economy.
