Write a paper analyzing how science is incorporated into a movie using the format below. You may choose from one of the suggested options, but feel free to email me if you have another idea! Do ONE movie. This assignment is due by 11:55pm on Saturday, September 24 in a PDF or Word document in Moodle.

Format:

Every page including the title page and reference page should be typed, double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5″ x 11″) with 1″ margins on all sides. The preferred typeface for APA publications is 12 pt. Times New Roman.

1)(5 pts) Title page (student name, date, title of movie, due date, & college name) ~1 page

2)(10 pts) Brief description of plot including essential characters and a summary of main information presented. Aim for 2-3 paragraphs, with each paragraph consisting of 6-8 sentences minimum. ~1 page

3)(30 pts) Describe three biological events in the movie. Keep in mind that Biology is the study of LIFE. For example, you may choose to focus on an event about disease, birth/death, use of the scientific method or skills, genetic engineering, cellular respiration, biotechnology, human genome project, stem cell research, cloning, ecology, food web, food chain, carbon cycle, sustainability, etc. Aim for 1 paragraph for each biological event consisting of 6-8 sentences minimum. ~1 page

4)(30 pts) Evaluate – Was the science accurately portrayed for each of your chosen events? Was it made up by some Hollywood producer? A combination? For each of your three chosen biological events, evaluate the validity of the science. This needs to be RESEARCH BASED. It’s what we do in science; we come to conclusions based on evidence. Aim for 1 paragraph for each biological event consisting of 6-8 sentences minimum. ~1 page

5)(5 pts) Cite your references (at least three on a works cited page) that substantiate your evaluation

(this means you must demonstrate to me that you’ve researched the biological events). Make sure that you are using credible sources of information. You should reference your resources in your writing and include intext citations in APA format. ~1 page

*Note: Please refrain from using reviews of the science done by other individuals as your main research-based sources of information. You may use these as guides, if they exist, but I am interested in your analysis, not someone else’s :-)*

6)(5 pts) List 5 really awesome, thoughtful, insightful questions you want to further investigate after having watched the movie. Good questions are indicative of your understanding of the material, and make you want to think even more! ~1 page

Your analysis should be ~6 typed pages

*Note: Plagiarism in ANY FORM will result in a zero being assigned for the assignment. Be sure to write using your “own” words. Copying and pasting information will result in a zero being assigned. If you must include a direct quote/quotation, include an intext citation in APA format. *
