Overview
Although the phrases “civil rights” and “civil liberties” are sometimes used interchangeably, they are actually extremely different. Think of our freedom of speech as an example of a civil liberty freedom that is protected by the Constitution, whereas civil rights are legal protections against discrimination for people (think: employment discrimination).
You’re allowed to keep mute. You are entitled to a fair trial in court. In addition, you are entitled to privacy and the right to vote. These rights are well-known to Americans, but are they civil rights or civil liberties? The distinctions between civil rights and civil liberties, as well as the laws that apply to each term, are examined in this article.
Human Rights
The fundamental right to be free from discrimination based on certain protected characteristics (such as race, gender, or disability) is known as civil rights. Civil Liberties vs. Civil Rights
The law distinguishes between civil liberties, which are fundamental freedoms, and civil rights, which refers to the fundamental right to be free from discrimination based on specific personal traits such as gender, color, or handicap. Civil rights and civil liberties deal with how an individual is treated in relation to particular rights. Civil rights include a protective feature of those rights based on specified qualities, unlike civil liberties, where everyone have broad-based rights.
