Assignment Descriiption: Students will produce a researched essay that focuses on a debatable topic within the Humanities. Each step of the research process will be evaluated, with feedback provided in order to successfully complete the next step. The topic should fulfill the following requirements: within the Humanities, debatable among professionals, significant for the general public to understand, not controversial or “tired” (in the media so frequently that there is little ‘fresh’ information to share).
Objectives:
1. Effective and efficient research of material, with credible sources.
2. Humanities topic that is debated among professionals, and important for the general public to understand.
3. Thesis that is a single sentence, identifying the debate and supporting information without announcing.
4. Outline is clear and detailed, with logical organization.
5. Sources to support the argument are (a) related to the thesis, (b) scholarly, (c) current and (d) credible.
6. Annotated Bibliography follows correct MLA format, offering clear and specific summary of each source.
7. Final Essay is a thorough argument supporting the thesis, with fluid incorporation of sources, and transitions from one section to the next that creates a unified writer’s voice.
8. Essay fulfills objectives for all essays in this course in regards to format, mechanics, and logic.
