(a) Critically discuss how both the external and internal environments, as well as the HR policy choices, can affect employee relations in an organization. Your discussion must be supported by illustration from your own organisation, or from a non-fictitious organisation that you are familiar with.

(b) In light of your analysis, identify what recommendations, if any, you would propose to improve the employee relations climate in the organisation under your discussion, and explain why you would propose them.

Assignment Objectives

A) The assignment assesses the student’s understanding of the context in which employee relations takes place in a particular organisation. Specifically, it requires the student to identify several key factors in both the external and internal environments, the flow of interaction between these components and consequent impact on employee relations in the organisation.

B) As a result of the above environmental scan, the student is required to identify areas of improvement in employee relations, and to recommend a suite of interventions (e.g., HR policy choices) to effect such improvements.
