The Allies decided to hold accountable the perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against peace, and crimes against humanity. The Holocaust played a small role in the initial case against the twenty-two defendants brought by the International Military Tribunal. Subsequent trials, focused more specifically on the persecution and murder of Jews. Even as these trials were conducted, a movement emerged calling the Holocaust a hoax. A growing group of people tried to negate the established facts of the Holocaust. They either denied the Holocaust took place or minimized its extent. This week we will examine the attempt to hold perpetrators accountable and the strategies and tactics Holocaust deniers use to distort the historical record.
