Answer the following questions based on course materials and/or credible, published sources (e.g., textbooks, articles) you find on your own:
Question:
1. What is attention? Provide a definition with appropriate reference(s).
2. Describe and explain the following models of selective attention / processing in the context of auditory attention (attention to speech): Broadbent’s (1950) Filter Model, Treisman’s Attenuation Model (1960; 1964), and Deutsch & Deutsch (1963) Late Selection Model. Make sure to clarify how each model is different from the others.
3. Provide information from 2 studies that tested these models against each other and/or provided empirical evidence that one of the models better explains real-world phenomena than another. For each study, include information about the subject population, which model(s) were tested, the methods, the findings, and the conclusions.
