Reflective Report

Introduction

The semester’s closing pitch project presented a unique chance for integrating theoretical knowledge learned throughout the semester to a real-world situation. The reflection will reveal personal and collaborative techniques at play. This report is based on my personal experience inside the team dynamic, examining successes and areas for growth. By drawing on relevant academic material, I hope to uncover personal learning outcomes and offer future tactics for more effective teamwork. Finally, the goal is to gain insightful knowledge from this encounter, not just to improve my own ability set, but also to pave the road for even greater teamwork in the days to come.

What Went Well for me Personally:

Participating in the pitch development during the semester enabled me to gain outstanding learning experiences that optimized my grasp of communication, cooperation, and presentation abilities. All components of the Pitch development process enlightened and enriched my personal growth and development in various aspects. Firstly, I effectively utilized the theoretical concepts learned during the semester to get a thorough understanding of the pitch’s objectives, intended audience, and the essential messages. During the pitch preparation process, I actively engaged in brainstorming groups, articulating my ideas boldly and respectfully while exploring competing points of view. Effective communication is required in-group projects and this pitch helped me to refine my communication skills. This is consistent with Tuckman’s (1965) theory of team development, in which the “storming” stage entails productive disagreement, which contributes to increased unity among members as indicated by Johnson et al., 2002.

Secondly, I served as a facilitator at the meeting sessions, ensuring that all team members had a chance to express their thoughts and concerns. This contributed to increased trust and coherence within the teammates, resulting in faster decision-making processes and enhanced collaboration. The entire endeavor promoted a sense of ownership among the team members while enriching my leadership skills (Schouten, van den Hooff, and Feldberg, 2016).

Lastly, the pitch preparation required comprehensive research and analytic competencies to unravel the dynamics of the prospective markets and competitor analysis. The rigorous process help to strengthen my research knowledge and the analytical skills to evaluate information from the course module and from other relevant sources. Moreover, the entire process helped me advance my power point preparation and writing skills to create compelling slides and visual aids.

What could have gone better for Me Personally:

Notwithstanding my efforts to the group, there were instances where I ought to have performed better throughout the pitch process. One component was time management, and I occasionally failed to prioritize activities and meet deadlines successfully. Managing the assignment’s demands with other collegiate responsibilities regularly ended in delaying some activities. Aeon and Aguinis 2017 demonstrate that this contributed to rushed tasks and greater strain on me and the rest of the team.

Furthermore, I came to the realization that I could have been more aggressive in asking for feedback and integrating helpful criticism into my efforts. I could have discovered areas for progress earlier and tailored my efforts accordingly if I proactively engaged my peers and other support staff in the school.

Finally, I admitted that I could have presented the proposal with greater assurance and boldness. Despite my preparation and material expertise, I was a little nervous about public speaking, which had an impact on my presence and delivery. In this regard, Gallego et al., 2022 notes that public speaking anxiety can be addressed by public speaking courses or rehearsing presentations in advance.

What Went Well and Could Have Gone Better for the Group

The team exceeded expectations in several key areas. The group exhibited diversity of skills and perspectives, which catapulted exceptional performance as the colorful tapestry of abilities and viewpoints enhanced efficiency in deliberating issues. This variety was not just a nice-to-have idea; it fulfilled a vital function that was in line with Belbin’s (1993) theory of team roles. According to Belbin, cohesive teams need a variety of personalities, with each member bringing a special set of abilities (Aranzabal, Epelde, and Artetxe, 2022).

Additionally, despite occasional arguments during brainstorming sessions, the group remained focused on identifying points of agreement and expanding on each other’s suggestions. This cooperative attitude emphasizes the significance of the social loafing prevention techniques described by Gabelica et al., 2022.

Overall, during the pitch process, our group showed excellent cooperation and coordination. We successfully split work according to the skills and strengths of each team member, resulting in a presentation that was thorough and well rounded. We also kept lines of communication open and offered mutual support to one another during the project, creating a welcoming and upbeat team atmosphere.

Nonetheless, there were certain instances where our team could have performed better. One factor was the assignment of duties and responsibilities; certain responsibilities were not spread equally, which caused some team members to feel resentful and frustrated (Salas, Sims & Burke, 2005). In the future, we may establish a more.

Moreover, during the pitch preparation stage, we might have gained more from organized and planned strategy. We might have lessened stress and increased overall efficiency by managing our time and resources more effectively by setting clear deadlines, outcomes, and milestones. Adopting project management techniques and arranging frequent group meetings could have enhanced communication flow as suggested by Bajaj (2023). Equitable workload division to guarantee accountability and justice within the group

Conclusion

The pitch process demonstrated the importance of collaboration and implementing conceptual understanding to real-world scenarios. By focusing on my own strengths and flaws, I discovered areas for personal development in communication, leadership, and time management. Furthermore, measures for improving team dynamics were reviewed, with a focus on clear communication, even task distribution, and the use of appropriate techniques. Future group projects can be made even more successful by encouraging collaboration and learning.
