Question: Based on the pros and cons of Nuclear Energy, how do you feel about this energy source? Should it be expanded or reduced? Explain your opinion.
Classmate’s response: I personally believe (and from what I’ve read the science agrees) that nuclear power’s pros far outweigh the potential negative side effects when handled appropriately. Yes, while the risk of meltdown as well as nuclear waste are legitimate concerns, the efficiency of nuclear power compared to other green energy is unmatched by far. Just as with “clean coal”, there are strides to reduce the amount of waste and pollution caused by the output of this energy, and it’s the only notable source of clean energy that doesn’t require fossils fuels (aka petroleum, coal, or oils) to maintain. Even now, nuclear waste CAN be recycled, although while countries like France and Japan are doing so to produce electricity, the US hasn’t invested in it.
