Initial post:
What types of PROJECTS are you most interested in being a part of? If you’ve worked on IT projects in classes or professionally before what were the aspects that appealed to you most? What aspects were frustrating or disappointing?
As a group, in peer replies, discuss the lessons surrounding project initiation that are most important at the start of a project.
Carlos’ post:
I think the most enjoyable project that I have been a part of is IT procurement. The part that appealed to me was the initial business plan and requirements of the business. It provided a sort of mental gymnastics of the different aspects for the business such as data privacy, security, network access, feature needs, and basic project focus. Understanding your environment and taking a look at various aspects of what a product may offer or challenge your needs with and asking the right questions for the project was quite appealing. Now the frustrating part is attempting to do proper research into the applications or hardware itself. Unfortunately, quite a bit of information that you might find on a project is marred with marketing and makes distinguishing between function and form quite a bit more difficult. This then leads to having to read trough quite a bit of technical documentation which can be rather tedious in some respects.
Alina’s post:
The type of project that I would be interested to be a part of is software development. I have built some websites and mobile applications both by myself and as a group but I would love to gain more experience, especially with the back end. I enjoy the whole process of creating an application such as brainstorming the ideas, creating UMLs, choosing UI/UX features and coding. Just like with any project, the most frustrating aspect is having an unmotivated group. When people are interested in the process and working hard toward the final product it is a great experience for all of the members.
