These are my professor’s instructions from my rough draft to improve on the final essay.
From the three articles below attached you have to write a thesis: a thesis is a roadmap for your reader. If an argument = claims + reasons, a thesis is your argument in sentence form – it is the very core of your argument. It needs to be unique and
contribute to the conversation in a different way. Tell your reader directly what you are trying to persuade or convince them of, and how you plan on making that happen.
– SW?/WC?: So what and who cares? You need to explain that your argument matters to someone (more than just yourself) and explain to your reader why they should be interested in what you have to say.
-Quotes: remember the three steps when incorporating material from outside sources. Introduce the material, embed the material into your own language, explain the material to your reader and say how and why it is relevant. Remember also to use signal verbs. Remember also to use signal verbs, to only quote what is relevant/useful, and that proper grammar and punctuation
must apply. Quotes should also support the argument from the article.
-Conclusion: your conclusion should reiterate the thesis of your essay. If your argument is meant to convince, remind the
reader why they should change their mind. If your argument is meant to persuade, remind your reader why they should move to action. You may also want to revisit your “so what?/who cares?”.
