Subject: Support of a market structure
Discussion: The student should select one of the four common market structures (Monopoly, Oligopoly, Monopolistic Competition, Perfect Competition) to support. In selecting a market structure, the student is assuming they are in a business and they want that business to be in that market structure. The actual business is not important. The key is for the student to defend and explain why they would want to be in business in the selected market structure.
In making the argument for the structure selected, the student needs to outline what characteristics of that market they find appealing. Also, the student needs to outline the characteristics of the other market structures that were not selected and explain why they do not find those desirable. Essentially, the requirement is to identify the characteristics of all the market structures, outline the differences and similarities between the market structures, critically assess them, and select one structure and support it.
Length: One or two pages is not sufficient to complete this assignment. However, 20 pages is probably too many. You should prepare a minimum of 4-5 pages not counting the cover page, or sources page(s)
