Literary Analysis of Novel (Essay 3) Guidelines:
We have been reading Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower. This book deals with many different themes, and as a dystopian novel, serves as a critique of certain aspects of our own society.
In this essay, analyze one of these critiques that the novel raises. Be sure to frame this analysis within the context of one of the historical or ideological critical theories that we discussed in class. Through this story, what is Butler saying about issues concerning race, or gender, or class, etc? What critique is she offering about how society deals with this particular issue in our present day?
Essay should be five full pages in length (minimum). You must use at least 4 sources-including quotes from the text(s) being analyzed, and you must also have a “Works Cited” page. The entire paper and Works Cited page must be adequately and appropriately documented in the MLA style as stated on the “guidelines” page.
Essay should also have a creative title centered right below the heading and right above the text of the essay.
