First,
let’s help each other with our communication.
Consider this situation:
Suppose that you manage an employee who is spending too much time using personal social media at work. As a consequence, he has missed three important deadlines in one week. You are planning a face-to-face conversation to address this performance problem, and your goal is to communicate with candor. Using “I” statements as described in this chapter, how would you begin this conversation?
(from page 623) Using “I” statements: To communicate with candor, you should keep the focus on the specific perception that you have, how it makes you feel, and how it is affecting you (and/or the workplace), rather than accusing or blaming the other person.
In your initial post, write 3 “I” statements that you would say to this individual as an introduction to, and description of, the situation/problem. You would make these statements to the employee prior to any comment from the employee. If your statement does not begin with an “I” it is incorrect. Maybe this will get you started: I see this; I know that; I feel concerned….

reply to one fellow student with your analysis of whether their “I” statements reflect the common traits of great managers (see page 541 or find something online.) If you find something online, be sure to cite your source, and in your post, identify the author or publication from which you obtained the traits. I expect your analysis to be constructive and kind, and honest! Use specific examples to show how the “I” statements did or did not reflect those common traits.
Next,
Look at Apply Your Skills: Engagement Exercise starting on page 517. Before looking at the scoring and interpretation, answer the 32 questions honestly.
Then, complete the interpretation and let me know your “type”.
Starting on page 519, you’ll find characteristics for each type. Analyze your type and let me know if you think it matches you. Use at least 5 sentences to answer this question.
Next,
please read Apply Your Skills: Ethical Dilemma on page 601 in the textbook.
Make a decision from the 3 choices presented, then, in two paragraphs, explain why you decided as you did. In your explanation, incorporate the material we learned in this chapter and use specific examples from the textbook material.
Your answer should be at least 3-5 sentences per paragraph.
Next,
After reading chapter 14 ,15, 16, and 17 and viewing the content material and the powerpoints, write 4-5 sentences each for each chapter. First, describe something you learned that you didn’t know before you read this chapter, then, relate this new knowledge to your work and/or the world in which we live.
