In this session, we begin preparing for the final essay, the argument. We will start by gathering sources and analyzing them. You have practiced analysis, so this will not be completely foreign to you.
This analysis of sources is called an annotated bibliography, and we will discuss it at length in class.

Review:

2) Patterns of organization (Section on argument and persuasion)
3) Understanding fact and opinion
4) Quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing

Choose: Find your topic for the argument essay. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints is a great place to start.
Write: An annotated bibliography using the template provided in the PowerPoint slides. You will analyze TWO sources. For each source, you will need the complete APA citation and two short paragraphs of about five sentences each:
Short paragraph one will be the SUMMARY of the article.
Short paragraph number two will be the PURPOSE of the article for your chosen essay topic.
