Instructions
Onboarding new associates, when done correctly, takes a significant amount of time. It takes time for the new associate and it takes time for the parties responsible for orienting new associates to their job duties and the organizationâ€
s culture. These responsible parties may, and typically do, include Department Managers, Assistant Managers, Store Managers, Hourly Supervisors, Training Coordinators, and others.
In this exercise, you are a manager with two new employees who have completed the orientation process.
- Based on your observations, think about what recommendations you might have for the onboarding program to better prepare new hires
- Write a memo to the HR Department addressing the following:
- Explain why it is important for new hires to have a clear understanding of the company’s mission statement, goals, and core values
- Describe two activities that your location conducts that are effective in the new employee orientation process
- Recommend two activities to improve the onboarding experience at your location
