We will be looking at chapter 12, entitled: The Presidency: Power and Paradox. This week is particularly good to be examining the role of the president and the powers imbued in the office. Please answer the following questions in essay form:
Q 1: What were the deliberations held by the founding fathers regarding the office, where in the constitution are the powers of the office contained, and in your opinion, which of the three branches of government contains more power and why?
Q 2. Name each of the powers of the president, and give examples of each being exercised.
Q.3 Describe in detail the pathway (primary) for either the democratic or republican process leading up the party convention, to being named their party’s nominee for the presidency.
Q 4. What is the electoral college, how many electoral college votes are required to be elected president.
Q 5. What was the political calculation/map that led to the current president being elected? What are “purple states” and what is their significance in political strategy?
Q 6. Name the other political roles the president plays, and describe in detail at least two of them.
