Test Directions: Your Test will consist of one essay (worth 100 points ). You will have an hour and a half to complete your test. All tests must be completed in Canvas. Please be sure to allow yourself enough time to complete your test. I do not accept late tests. Your test should be in your own words. Your answer will receive a zero if you provide any direct quotes, even if properly cited.
Essay Focus: The essay portion of the test is designed to not only test your historical knowledge but also your critical thinking skills. The essay will ask you to list key causes of a historical event. Be sure to pay close attention to the number of items you are required to mention and the time frame that the question will limit you to. All answers can be found in the Class Focus PowerPoints or in the Canvas Research Module.
Essay Length: Your answer should be at least 250 words in length. If your answer is less than 250 points you will receive a zero. Please do not include any headers or your name in your answer. Your citation will NOT count towards your 250-word limit.
Sources: All answers should include a complete MLA citation included with your answer in the Canvas answer box provided. Your MLA citation should come at the END of your essay. Any answer without a complete MLA citation in the answer box will receive a zero. (Keep in mind this means all sources that you use including the Focus PowerPoints as well as the textbook must be cited. Examples of how to cite these types of sources can be found on the previous pages of this module.) Please remember that links, parenthetical citations, in-text citations, or simply providing a book title, or URL does not count as a complete MLA citation and will result in a zero. If your MLA citation is in the body of your essay and not at the end you will receive a zero.
Note on attempts: You will be allowed two attempts to complete your exam. I will, however, only grade one attempt. In order to select which attempt you would prefer for me to grade you will be asked to answer a multiple-choice question included in your test (which counts for zero points) allowing you to select which attempt you would prefer for me to grade. Unless you specify otherwise or do not answer this question on your first attempt, I will grade your first attempt ONLY. All attempts must be completed by the assigned due date.
Fine Print:
Note on outside sources: Because this is an open book test I cannot control your use of outside sources, therefore for EACH of your answers, you will be required to provide a full MLA work cited citation stating where you found your information. Your citation should be provided in the answer box and should be in proper MLA format. Please note that this includes all information taken from the textbook or the Focus PowerPoints. I am the author of the Focus PowerPoints. The title for each Focus PowerPoint Presentation can be found on the first slide of each presentation. The creation date for each slider presentation is June 2018.
Any answer box without a complete work cited MLA citation will receive a ZERO for that question. Simply providing a parenthetical citation, a link, or an incomplete citation will also receive a zero.
Your answer should be in your own words. Any directly copied answer, even direct quotes provided with appropriate quotation marks, will receive a zero.
All tests must be completed in Canvas.
All attempts must be completed by the assignment due date. Tests completed after the due date will receive a zero.
Your essay answer should be 250 words in length, if it is less than 250 words you will receive a zero.
I will only grade one attempt.
While I am happy to review your MLA citations for your Research Paper, I cannot do so for your essay test. This would be similar to me providing an answer and would be unfair. I am happy though to answer general MLA citation questions.
Please keep in mind this is a timed exam. Please email all questions prior to starting your exam. I cannot guarantee that I will be able to respond to a question submitted once an exam has begun.
