The ideas about suicide and euthanasia that I find most controversial are:
The idea about euthanasia that I find most controversial is the idea of euthanasia in itself. When did it become acceptable to end a human’s life intentionally to end suffering and pain? The United States ranks second in the world for the most advanced technology, and euthanasia is the best we can come up with to help stop pain and suffering (Getzoff, 2023). I find euthanasia to be very controversial, whether voluntary, involuntary, or nonvoluntary.
We are healthcare providers, doctors, and nurses who are supposed to provide a healthy life, not end it. What I find meaningful about suicide is that it is a massive problem in the US, and little to nothing has been done to help fix the problem. Not too long ago, I got a lesson on number 22 in church. This means 22 veterans commit suicide daily in the US because, in some cases, there are not enough mental health providers available.
The personal significance of the passage selected:
“Everyone desires a good death, an end to life that is both peaceful and without prolonged suffering.” The significance of this passage is because I believe that when a person is passing, we can make them as comfortable as possible. We don’t have to actively assist, but as healthcare providers, we can be there to make the transition as comfortable and peaceful as possible.
