*Note: you are required to discuss points from one of the articles in your response, but you may discuss both articles if you wish. You will be discussing both articles in week four.
2. Read the article again using critical reading strategies discussed in your textbook.
3. Write a 400–500 word response to this article that includes:
a thesis statement identifying your own perspective on the topic
multiple paragraphs discussing your perspective in relation to the article
at least one direct quote or paraphrase from the article, introduced by a signal phrase and accompanied by an in-text citation
4. Keep in mind:
To formulate the best discussion on the topic, briefly introduce the article in your first paragraph, then end the paragraph with your own position on the issue.
Balance your ideas with the author’s ideas. Use the article for context and support without re-summarizing it.
You may challenge the author’s argument, but focus on explaining why your ideas differ from theirs rather than criticizing their writing. Consider points the article did not address that would add new perspective to the topic.
You may use first person to differentiate your own ideas from the author’s.
5. Cite the article in an APA-formatted reference entry at the bottom of your document. Be sure to include an in-text citation any time you quote or paraphrase from the article. For help with citations, visit the Project APA site.
6. Format and upload your completed response below as a Word document. It should be formatted according to APA standards, with double-spaced lines and 12-point Times New Roman font.

Carly Taylor’s article describes what movies can do that books can not. Starting off, film and print are two different medias and should be expected to be able to tell different stories. Hence why movies are often called “adaptations”. The author and director are separate storytellers, telling a story in their own way. A lot of people go in expecting the same thing from the movie as the book and are highly disappointed when their expectations are let down. We fail to see that directors have a different perspective on an authors story.
Usually movies take into account the story as a whole, skipping things such as internal dialogue. Making scenes more pleasurable instead of mundane in a short amount of time. You can see the perspective from the outside. Also, if you were experiencing the events for yourself in real time. It captures the main idea of the plot for the viewers.
Authors and directors are two different types of artists and they produce two separate types of media for the views. Sometimes in a book it is difficult to grasp fully the visual effects that the author is trying to create. Movies help us get a more general feel to this. Take for example the movie adaptation for “Clock Work Orange”. The book has a strange way of describing things such as a mannequin table and all of the slang that is in Russian but the movie is there to put it all into better perspective, with narration and visual aids.
Movies help us understand books better. They are different medias created by different artists. The adaptations of books give us a different perspective on the authors story by speeding along the process of the main idea and events that unfold. Confusing texts from books are turned into more pleasing ways to enjoy the story without as much effort, helping us understand what the story was meant to be about.
