PSYC3003 Literature Review

This unit will provide students with experience in developing a literature review – a critical research skill.Summative assessment: Summative assessment has two components:
(a) Summative assessment scheme
A 5000 word (+/-10%) extended essay the title of which must be agreed with the advisor in advance and which must be presented in the form of a literature review.
Assessment detail
A critical discussion and review of the literature utilising a rigorous ‘desktop’ research process in a secondary analysis review of a wide range primary sources pertaining to the subject under investigation.
The literature review will be submitted in two parts. The first part will be submitted on the January course work submission date.
Part one (1500 words) will include:
The literature review question/problem.
The introduction including the rationale, relevance, background and context.
The aims and objectives.
The search strategy.
This section will constitute approximately 30 marks of the total word limit and will be marked out of 30 (LOs 1,2,5).
Part two (3500 words) will include:
Critical appraisal of 10 primary UK published research articles should be included.
These should be the best 10 article drawn from the literature search which help to answer the enquiry/question. The use of international articles must be justified with rationale for their inclusion.

Critical analysis and discussion of findings.
Implications for nursing and limitations to application in practice
Learning Log (Excluded from word count)
This section will constitute approximately 70 marks of the total word limit and will be marked out of 70 (LOs 3,4, 5,6,7).
