Choose a current event or issue related to nationalism and research that event in depth. Think of
the 5 W’s (who, what, where, when, why) when you are researching. The more you know and
understand about your chosen event or issue, the greater depth you will be able to bring to the
assignment.

Write an analysis on your current event or issue based on the following format:
First paragraph – Explain the event as if you were speaking with someone who knew
nothing about it. Show how the event or issue relates to nationalism. This is where you
analyze the event.
Second paragraph – Explain one potential argument or perspective of the event or issue
and its view on the event’s impact on nationalism. Perhaps this is from the perspective of
an outsider or someone the event or issue impacts in a meaningful way
Third paragraph – Explain an OPPOSING argument or viewpoint from your previous
paragraph and its view on the event’s impact on nationalism.
Fourth paragraph – Now that you have looked at two sides of a current event or issue,
write a paragraph explaining your opinion on the event and its impact on nationalism
Use at least three pieces of evidence to support your perspective.
This is a short writing piece which should be between 2 – 2 ½ pages double spaced (double this
amount if you are handwriting). Be clear and concise and think about what information is vital,
and what information may not be necessary to support your arguments.
