AMERICAN HISTORY AND HOW DOES THE PATTERNS OF AMERICAN HISTORY AFFECT YOUR TOPIC.
You will be writing a research paper on the topic you chose in the first week of class. You will be analyzing the changes that have occurred in your topic since the Civil War to today. For some topics, you might want to go back to before the Civil War. Even if you are discussing something that was originated After the war, such as airplanes, you will need to address the research that came before so that you paper encompasses the entire 160 period of this course.
Your not going to be providing a list of achievements or changes. YOU WILL BE GIVING AN ANALYSIS OF HISTORICAL PATTERNS. How did your subject effect the course of US history and how did political and social patterns influence the changes to your subject?
1500-2000 words
You are required to use Chicago Manual of Style citations for every fact and idea you get from another source. (20 points for doing it correctly and having a Works Cited page that is alphabetized by author)
From 1865-Present
3 Primary sources (at least) (30 points will be removed from total without these) Primary=written at the time you are talking about.
3 secondary scholarly sources (at least) (30 points will be removed from total without these)
Look at trends and patterns in your topic: HOW DOES YOUR TOPIC AFFECT AMERICAN HISTORY AND HOW DOES THE PATTERNS OF AMERICAN HISTORY AFFECT YOUR TOPIC.
Have a compelling introduction and a conclusion telling the reader what they should think. Have a CLEAR and bold thesis statement.
