Developing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
Overview
Many employers are universities are requiring applicants to provide a diversity, equity, and inclusion statement. DEI statements provide an opportunity for you to reflect on how you create a welcome and engaging class or supervisory style. As suggested by the readings this week, your DEI statement should be a framework for how your teaching and supervision will integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion. As you think about your DEI statement and how to craft it, consider the following:
What is your theory of teaching or supervision, and how does it align with DEI?
If someone were to ask you about what you would do about the lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion, how might you answer this question?
How would you set the expectation in your classroom or supervision setting that diversity and inclusion are important tenets of your teaching?
How do you see your DEI statement aligning with CSWE concepts of diversity and inclusion in higher education?
