EXAM II ESSAY
Choose ONE of the following essay questions about which to write. Only write about ONE. You will notice that there are several parts to the question, so please answer to the best of your ability. You have one hour to craft an essay, and you may use your book and your class notes if that will help. When you are finished and BEFORE you submit your attempt, please copy and paste your essay into a word or pdf document. After you have submitted your attempt, please take that document and upload it to the appropriate dropbox.
How was the Era of Disillusionment after World War I different from the Progressive period before it? Compare the outlook during both eras. Use three examples of disillusionment and explain how they show the changes in outlook at the time.
Discuss the Great Depression. What things lead up to and help to cause it (talk about 3)? Be sure to include the Trickle Down theory, as well as world issues and consumption. How does Hoover try to fix things (mention 2 things he tried, and how they were received by the public)? What about FDR and his New Deal? How effective are his policies (talk about 2), and what eventually leads us out of the Great Depression?
How did the Treaty of Versailles, war reparations, and the German economy following the First World War bring about the rise of Hitler? Once in power, how did he bring Germany back from its depression and into war? Discuss the Allied policy of appeasement in this regard (talk about 3 times they appeased him). How and why did America finally decide to enter into the war? Discuss both the European and the Pacific fronts in this regard (meaning, how did we end up in a war with Japan AND Germany/Italy?).
