For those currently working in a designated infection prevention and control role within a health setting, check and see if your organisation has an antimicrobial stewardship program. If so, briefly discuss the program in relation to your organisation and role.
Consider the following:
· Appropriateness to your organisation (e.g. size, resources, specialist staff, etc.)
· The population served by your organisation (e.g. specific infectious diseases that impact upon the risk profile of the patient population, etc.)
· The reporting and feedback processes
· Your contribution to the program in your current role as an infection prevention and control professional
If your organisation does not have a antimicrobial stewardship program, consider why that might be the case, and discuss the ways in which such a program would benefit your organisation and the people it serves.
For those NOT currently working in a designated infection prevention and control position, briefly discuss antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in relation to your local community. Consider the following:
· The risk profile of the population (age groups, socioeconomic status, education levels, language issues, availability of healthcare resources, etc.)
· Do you see evidence of any initiatives being implemented in your community (at pharmacies, healthcare agencies, Centrelink/Medicare/government offices, library, community notice boards, local radio/TV, etc.)
· What is your impression of the general knowledge of the problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in your community?
· Within your current role, are there ways you could contribute to the education of consumers/the community about ways to help minimise AMR?
