Instructions: Endemic to all academic papers both in one’s undergraduate or professorial career
is the research paper; in a formal research essay, you will not only articulate a thesis but also
situate your own voice among others, synthesizing information you have found from reputable,
credible sources to support your argument. For this assignment, you will conduct an independent
reading assignment and write a well-developed, 4 to 6 page literary analysis over any aspect of
the book. You will begin gathering scholarly resources to help
you formulate your own argument about one of the book’s larger themes. Throughout your
paper, you will provide solid research evidence to support your description/argument; you will
need to have at least 4 credible, researched sources. While we will go over scholarly sources in
class, such sources include some of the following: academic books, scholarly papers, and .gov
websites. Examples of insubstantial sources include but are not limited to: .org or .com websites,
popular newspapers, non-academic books, or your own opinion.
