Revision is an ongoing process and, for the last week, you have been working to make your draft stronger. Now that you have taken the feedback from your Smarthinking tutor and peers and applied it to your writing, it’s time to submit your revised draft to your instructor. Note – for this week’s assignment, you’ll copy/paste your Smarthinking tutor feedback at the end of your essay draft submission. Remember: 25% of your grade is based on your revision efforts, so be sure to put time into this process.
Before you submit your draft, spend some time reflecting on the following points below:
Review the essay instructions. Are you meeting the purpose/goals of the assignment (to inform/explain)?
Examine your thesis statement. Does it need modified at this point? Does it meet the essay purpose?
Evaluate the balance of your paper. Are some of your paragraphs out of proportion? Do you offer ample detail in each body paragraph?
Check the organization of your paper. Does the pattern make sense? Have you followed the appropriate format? Do you have five full paragraphs (par. 1: introduction; par. 2-4: body paragraphs; par. 5: conclusion)
Refer back to both of the provided sources on the topic you’ve selected to work with. Are your facts accurate? Have you integrated quotations properly?
Review your conclusion. Does it end effectively? Have you offered your perspective on the issue (optional, but not required)?
Finally, check that you’ve formatted your essay properly using APA format, both in the paper set-up and through in-text citations and the References page.
