final project options should elicit a document that is no less than 3 double-spaced pages (or 1.5 single-spaced pages) not including references. You may work with a partner on this if you would like. If so, your final paper must be at least 5 double-spaced pages (or 2.5 single-spaced pages). If you would like to work in a group of three, your paper must be at least 8 double-spaced pages (or 4 single-spaced pages). If you work in a group and decide to do option #1, you may want to consider multiple policies or programs. If you are having difficulty meeting the paper length requirements, please talk to me and I would be happy to give you suggestions. Regardless of if you work in a group or with a partner everyone still must submit a copy of the project. Times New Roman 12pt font with 1-inch margins should be used. You can use any reference or citation style as long as you are consistent and include both references and in-text citations. I personally prefer to use ASA format for citations and references (instructions are linked within the words “citations” and “references” if you want to learn how to use this style).
Write a policy or programmatic white paper using sociologically-based thinking and research about how to remedy a social problem. You will propose one or more policy or program at the, state, or community level that could address a social problem.
White papers are background reviews that can be given to policymakers (or other leaders) to create a specific policy (or program). They are brief and to the point and make use of bullets and “bottom line” points. They are meant to be persuasive. They establish what the social problem is, why it should be of concern, and then discuss a solution (or solutions) that could logically solve the problem. Your white paper also needs to consider the cultural, political, and/or economic challenges to “moving forward” with your recommendation and discuss how to meet these challenges.
