Students will write a research paper exploring mourning practices from a culture other than their own. Themes to consider include: 1) how the culture under investigation views death; 2) the meaning and significance given to death; 3) conceptualizations of the afterlife; 4) mourning rituals; 5) gendered responsibilities during periods of mourning; 6) public and private dimensions of mourning; 7) the clinical relevance of culture-bound mourning traditions; and 8) ethical considerations when working with the bereaved.
This paper must be 5 to 10 pages, double-spaced, using a minimum of 5 to 8 peer-reviewed sources from the past 5 years. APA formatting and citations are mandatory as the failure to cite sources appropriately constitutes plagiarism.
*Please note: This essay will be graded strictly according to the rubric which emphasizes organization & coherence, evidence & support, analysis and use of core concepts, professional ethics, cultural competence, and APA. I have attached the rubric, below.
