The introduction will be incorporated into a research report on interpretative phenomenological analysis that I am currently preparing (Qualitative Research Methods in Psychology Modul). This introduction should contain the following details:
Literature review of relevant literature. Start broadly and narrow your focus until you end this section with the rationale and research question (use the funnel approach). Do not worry if you struggle to find only qualitative studies in this area – referring to quantitative research here is fine as well.
Explain/justify why you are conducting this study (i.e. provide the rationale for conducting the study).
My rationale may be as follows: This study builds upon previous studies which examined life transitions associated with studying abroad. In contrast, the purpose of this study is to examine changes in self-perceived personal identity as a result of studying abroad.
Therefore, the research question for this study is ” What is it like to study abroad? ”
