The research paper is a short analysis about a war. You will select one case study from a list of 100 conflicts (the list is at the end of the syllabus). Your paper should combine theoretical insights and factual research. You are free to pick and develop the aspect you find the most interesting in the conflict you have chosen. For example, what were the main reasons behind the war, why did it last so long (or so short), what did explain victory (or defeat), what was the most salient issue about it (casualties, weapons, tactics…)
The paper should be around double-spaced 15 pages, with footnotes and a bibliography. Of course, quantity is nothing to quality. Needless to say, words or ideas from published works must be properly acknowledged. If you do not, you are committing plagiarism, which is a serious academic offense. If you are at all uncertain about what constitutes plagiarism, or what are acceptable forms of citation and referencing, please consult me. Time flies, so, start to think about a potential case for research as soon as possible. Don’t hesitate to contact me for advice.
