Choose any two stories that you have read in the textbook that both focus on the same
theme. Write an essay explaining
how the different literary elements that we discuss
reveal the theme to the reader. Research different literary criticisms of the stories you
have chosen. Comment on ideas and conclusions you have found that you differ from
your own opinion and discuss w
hy your ideas are better. Be sure to use evidence from
the text of stories themselves to back up your opinion statements. Follow the format on
page 90 of your textbook. As always, make sure to cite all your sources using the MLA
guidelines reviewed in
lesson 2.
Minimum Length: 500 words
Written Assignment #3:
Select two or more poems from the readings that you believe have similar
themes. Your thesis is to show the reader how these poems point to this
particular theme. Analyze each poem according to
each of the elements of the
poem discussed in chapter 8 to show how each of the elements points to this
theme. Make sure to use the text of the poem itself as evidence to support your
thesis. Research what others have said about these poems and use this
as
evidence as well. As always, make sure to document all sources using the MLA
guidelines.

how all the dramatic elements we learned about in the previous chapter can be
