Rogerian Argument/Capstone Essay

1. Find an issue in your community that you could potentially solve yourself, and propose at least 3 potential solutions for that issue.
2. Example problem – people speed through my neighborhood.
3. Example solutions – turn community into a gated community; install speedbumps; arrange
law enforcement patrols of neighborhood 24/7, etc.
4. Identify arguments for and against each of your solutions.
5. Example – state arguments for and against turning the community into a gated community,
for and against speedbumps, for and against law enforcement patrols, etc.
6. The Rogerian method calls for a discussion of both sides of your solutions AND asks that you
find middle ground between the opposing sides.
7. If you are unable to find the middle ground, you may choose which side of the arguments is
strongest.
8. Be sure to include examples from research from at least 5 sources, but no more than 6.
9. This assignment should be in APA formatting, and it should have a References page with citations for all of the research used in your actual essay.
