Assignment 2 – 50% Group Assignment
This assignment aims to assess your understanding of lean concepts and your ability to create a Value Stream Map (VSM) to represent the process of supplying products or services to customers. VSM is a tool to systematically analyse such processes to identify waste and non-value-add activities. It always begins with the customer placing an order and ends with the customer receiving that completed order. It should map each process along the way. For that reason, this assignment will require you to undertake such a task based on the Curl Up & Dye case study.
Part 1 – 20 Marks
Analyse the case study and present your answer under the headings below:
- Draw the current state Value Stream Map (VSM) for this service, from start to finish. This must follow the format presented in class and included in the Powerpoint presentations.
- Then you need to analyse the Current State Value Stream Map – This will include asking what are the main problems that need to be addressed for the salon? Is the TAKT being meet? What is the value-added time v’s the non-value added time in the current process?
