For the past six weeks we have been examining Hidden Figures in class and studying how it serves as a document of the achievements of a group of African American women in the fields of math and engineering while also shining a light on the struggles they faced due to structural racism. Now it is time to review what you have learned and create an argumentative essay to finish the semester!
PROMPT: According to critic Gary Thompson, Hidden Figures shows “a vision of a profoundly imperfect America managing to find unity in the service of a shared cause.” What is described in the book that illustrates an “Imperfect America”? What “Unity” and “Shared Cause” is shown? What are the results? Do you think the book reflects more of the “Imperfect America” or the “Shared Cause”?
