Introduction:
Modelling is a technique used by scientists to assist in explanation and understanding of scientific processes. Models in biology have two important purposes – to explain how things work and to predict what will happen. Models are representations of biological reality, they are not the reality itself. They provide a visual representation of the process being explained.
Task:
In this depth study, you will learn through research and investigation the importance of polypeptide synthesis. There are two parts to the study:
Part A
Requires you to construct/create a model to explain the processes of transcription and translation. Your model will need to be annotated and accompanied by a supporting video presentation detailing the actual processes. Which should include:
● Transcription and translation
● Location of each process
● All the molecules needed and their function
● How a polypeptide is made into functional protein
Part B
A written response to the following two questions:
● Assess the importance of mRNA and tRNA in transcription and translation.
● Analyse the function and importance of polypeptide synthesis.
You will be given three hours of class time over the three week period towards this task
