Enterprise Risk Management

Enterprise risk management (ERM) is a process that analyzes, evaluates, and manages organizational risk (Anton & Nucu, 2020). Organizations often use this framework to identify the following: probability of financial distress and associated costs, low earning performance, growth opportunities, and independence of the board (Anton & Nucu, 2020). Properly using a risk strategy can help give the organization a competitive advantage. Several core components of ERM are essential, but the internal environment establishes a basis for the company., which also provides the core philosophy for the organization (Oyede et al., 2023). The internal climate helps the organization shape attitudes and exemplifies how employees should approach and manage risk. The internal climate’s essential role is to guide decision-making, implementation, and strategic development for organizational activities (Oyede et al., 2023). Without a foundation, it would be difficult for the organization to have a starting place when using the Enterprise Risk Management framework.

Why I Thought it was Critical

I chose the internal environment as the most essential core component because an organization needs a foundation and guidance. Without structure, an organization will struggle with relationships, performance, developing strategies, and innovation (Katen et al., 2015). These are all critical elements to a successful organization. Research points to the internal environment and organization structure as the most considerable influence in a successful organization because all the other components will follow if the foundation is established.
