ABSTRACT
The request for new and useful materials is going on from times immemorial. Fiber, filler reinforced plastics have replaced the metals in Aerospace, Marine, Chemical and Transport industries. Fiber, filler reinforced plastic have gained recognition as structural material. The most important reason for replacing composite materials is that, substantial weight saving can be achieved and strength to weight, and stiffness to weight ratios are superior to the conventional materials of aircraft structures such as aluminum alloy. Composites are materials based on the controlled distribution of one or more materials, termed as reinforcement, in a continuous phase of second materials, called the matrix. The reinforcement is added to provide strength and stiffness to a composite. The matrix is also known as ‘Binder’ material
In the current work epoxy resin is chosen as matrix, Jute fiber is chosen as reinforcement. The composites are prepared with different volume fraction of natural fiber by hand layup technique. Different weights of jute fiber (e.g. 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 grams) has been incorporated into the Epoxy matrix in order to study the variation of Mechanical and Thermal properties
Mechanical properties like Flexural strength, Tensile strength and impact strength of the hybrid composites are studied by UTM (Universal Testing Machine). chemical properties are studied by absorption test initially conducted in distilled water and then in chemical compositions prepared with pellets of Hcl in 100 ml.
Proposed Methodology:
The main objectives of the proposed work to be carried out are as follows
•Developing and characterization of Composite Material by Hand layup technique.
•Investigating mechanical properties of developed composite material.
•Investigating chemical resistance properties of developed composite material.
Reinforcing constituents in composites, as the word indicates, provide the strength that makes the composite what it is. But they also sever certain additional purposes of heat resistance or conduction, resistance to corrosion and provide rigidity. Reinforcement can be made to perform all or one of these functions per the requirements.
A reinforcement that embellishes the matrix strength must be stronger and stiffer then the matrix and capable of changing failure mechanism to the advantage of the composite. This means that the ductility should be minimal or even nil the composite must behave as brittle as possible.
Aim and scope of present work
Polymers owing their service to the society with their outstanding characteristics Like low density, good corrosion resistance, low coefficient of friction, good mould ability and economical. The products produced with polymeric materials have good surface finish, transparent and can be produced with close dimensional tolerance. These superior properties of polymers are finding various applications in our life. Even though the polymers have the good characteristics, but their mechanical properties are poor and also they have poor temperature and polymer composites are produced. The fiber reinforced as well as filler added polymers composites have remarkably the mechanical and thermal properties.
In the current work epoxy resin in choose as matrix, (jute fiber) fiber, are chose as reinforcement. Room temperature cured Epoxy System with fiber are synthesized by mechanical shear mixer in order to study the variation of mechanical properties
Mechanical properties like Flexural strength, Tensile strength and compression strength of the composites are studied by UTM (Universal Testing Machine) and the change in weight is calculated by chemical treatment process.
