RESPOND TO:
Currently, I work at a healthcare facility known as Franciscan Health. In this position, I work as an onboarding specialist to provide the best onboarding experience I can to our new hires. To be able to do this, my team made up of ten people, work closely together to solve issues. My role in this team isn’t one with a specific title. I work closely with my division partner to get our work done and to make sure everything is running smoothly from an onboarding perspective. When things go wrong or we have a helpful suggestion, we take it to the rest of our team in our weekly meetings to discuss.
My manager plays a major role in the success of our team. Her willingness to maintain open communication with each team member individually and as a whole has fostered an environment of openness. She sets standards for the team to continuously meet while creating an environment where issues can be talked about and resolved. Prior to her coming into the position, issues would be brought up, and no change was being made. They were being overlooked and pushed aside to make way for other matters. Once she became our manager, things started to turn around for our department.
The biggest thing that made this team successful was our ability to communicate our problems and have that turned into an action of some sort. What I mean by this is, when a problem was brought up, our manager instantly acted. She would email right away or message the person to find the answer. It changed the entire dynamic of the team and helped foster a more positive work environment. With this, “to navigate this rapidly changing world, leaders must embrace additional mindsets and skill sets. (Solomon, L. K.)”. Leaders need to be able to adapt and overcome changes. This leads to a more effective and efficient work environment.
I believe the most important thing for my team will be communication. If we are able to get on the same page from the beginning, there should be little to no issues with the team. I also believe that sharing where we work best in a team, whether that be the leader, the support person, or an organizer, it needs to be shared ahead of time.
