First things first: Important Notes
Please answer each question completely to earn credit for your midterm exam. Remember, each question is its own question. Be sure to start the second question on a different page. Submit the assignment as one document.
Work carefully (proofread, cite your texts, use ample evidence, etc.).
Please do not use “I.”
Question One:
In a 1-2 paged typed essay (please double space), show how writing can be used to make social change. Be sure to use one poem and two nonfiction works as well as drawing upon at least one concrete example from each selected work. Use only the works we’ve discussed in class.
Question Two:
For a woman living during slavery or in its aftermath, the expectation was to acquiesce to societal standards for her race and gender. In a 1-2 paged typed essay (please double space), show how both Linda and Janie challenged the limiting expectations set out for them in efforts to maintain their own sense of autonomy. Be sure to draw upon at least two concrete examples from each selected work.
