For this assignment you will choose three works from the book (all short stories) and create
your own thematic unit. This will require critical reading, writing, and thinking skills. You will be
making connections between the works in the book
and a theme. Be creative and have fun with
this assignment. Follow the outline below.
Worth up to 100 points.
Guidelines:
1. Choose three stories (any three from the book).
2. Choose a theme that ties them all together, such as Love, War, Coming of Age, Social
Class, etc. You may use one of these themes or choose your own.
3. Do not use other outside sources.
4. Write a three page paper that contains one paragraph of summary of each story. One
paragraph of discussion of each story, and a Works Cited page in MLA.
5. Suggested Outline:
a. Introduction with underlined thesis statement.
b. Summary Paragraph 1
c. Discussion Paragraph 1
d. Summary Paragraph 2
e. Discussion Paragraph 2
f. Summary Paragraph 3
g. Discussion Paragraph 3
h. Conclusion
i. Works Cited
6. Use MLA format. Double-space, 12 point font.
