The Denver International Airport baggage system construction project is a prime example of change management and the effect on the overall project. During the project, a change was instituted to create a complete airport automated baggage system instead of a terminal centered system approved in the original scope. The result of this change was a doubling of costs for the project to the taxpayers, a doubling of time for the project, and a carrier-based baggage system instead of a terminal due to an unreasonable scope (Montealegre & Keil, 2000). Trying to initiate a change that alters the entire project after the planning phase is not a recipe for success.
