DIRECTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED CAREFULLY
DIRECTIONS: Identify a key research topic/issue specific to healthcare financing and informatics. A written proposal for the term paper is due on or before the fourth week of the course. You are to discuss related findings in the previous/current literature and formalize your main research question (building up connections). You are to propose research questions that connect the two topics of healthcare finance and informatics. If you currently work in a healthcare setting, you are free (and encouraged) to propose a topic that would be most relevant to you.
In additional to all outside resources you wish to use, you MUST cite at least five peer-reviewed articles to address your research questions. When citing the reference, you should point out the main argument of the reference, describe the methodologies the paper used to conclude its findings (brief descriptions are needed if both theoretical and empirical evidences are used), and precisely indicate how the findings in the reference paper would help to support your argument and address your research question. When concluding your research, you also need to emphasize potential contributions of your paper and point out several areas for further research and the potential limitations of yours. The paper must be 12 to 15 pages in length, NOT including the title, abstract, table of contents, appendices, or reference pages. Please follow the guidelines as listed below.
1) Identify your main research question, and precisely define your question with a well- supported argument (if there is a causal relationship, or simply a correlation). (10 Points)
2) Summarize the current literature, and specially emphasize the contributions of the 5 articles you find from the peer-reviewed journals, which are related to healthcare financing and informatics (10 Points)
3) Review the critical issues of those articles and summarize them in detail. (10 Points)
a) Source (s) of information researchers used. (What did the paper talk about?)
b) Pay attention to details: Year (s), Geographical Area of study (Country, State, County, etc.), Practice Areas (medicine), Insurance Types.
c) Conclusions.
d) Importance of the study, and how it helps you to address your research question?
e) Critique.
4) Fully describe how you would go about conducting your research. Offer a methodology & discussion as if you were writing a grant proposal to get your research funded. (10 points)
5) Discussions of relevant issues and potential areas for further research. (10 Points)
6) Discuss and describe the potential limitations of your proposed research (10 points)
7) Create properly formatted paper, including in-text citations and “reference list” in MS Word using the latest version of APA format. (10 Points)
8) Overall quality of the paper with properly supported arguments (10 points)
9) Prepare a document in MS Word following the above instructions
